Sure thing, here goes nothing.

Alright, so here I am, losing my mind over a game – Splitgate 2 – and let’s forget about Call of Duty or Battlefield or whatever else. Seriously, who needs those when you’ve got a game that’s like Halo shaking hands with Portal? It’s wild. Splitgate, the first one, was cool but kinda felt like trying to bake a cake without enough eggs. Still good but missing something, ya know? This sequel seems like it’s got the mojo to really go places. And guess what? The open beta just dropped, and there’s no end date! Hallelujah. Everything you do carries over when the full game’s out, which is sweet.
Okay, rewind a bit. Tried out Splitgate 2 in its last playtest and man, it’s like they took the essence of the game, sprinkled some Unreal Engine 5 magic dust on it, and voila! Movement and visuals leveled up big time. It still has that Halo-like gunplay, but now there are class-based abilities. Adds a whole thing of strategy, which is – how should I put this – like adding hot fudge on a sundae.
So, 1047 Games – bless their ambitious hearts – is really throwing the kitchen sink at this thing with modes and maps galore. From old-school arena stuff to big ol’ 24-player chaos, the open beta’s showing off a buffet of choices. Oh, and about the new gun – the Borealis? Yeah, it’s all chargey and zappy, like something out of a sci-fi fever dream.
A little extra nugget for you: they’ve got a mini open beta battle pass rolling until launch day, and here’s the kicker – you can actually chase down 1047 Games devs in the game. They’re rockin’ these flaming disco ball skins, which sounds as ridiculous as it is awesome. Take one down, get a sweet skin to remember it by.
Oh, almost forgot the coolest part – The Lab. It’s like, make-your-own-fun central. It’s a map editor that lets you muck about like a mad scientist, or even better, with 15 of your buddies. Crafting your own Splitgate playground? Sign me up!
Anyway, the open beta’s live now. Dive in on PC, consoles, or even Steam Deck. Just thinking about it gets me hyped.
And by the way, if you’re itching for more gaming goodness, there’s a great list of the best multiplayer and free PC games somewhere on this site. Plus, Google News is a neat place to catch up on all the gaming buzz. Or hey, join a chat on Discord if you can keep up with the chaos there.
There you go. Jump in, mess around – who knows, maybe you’ll cross paths with a flaming dev or craft the next big map everyone’s talking about.
