Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, kinda in the hot seat right now. He had to say sorry—yeah, a real “my bad” moment—because folks are struggling to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2. Apparently, they’re trying to beef up their production lines or whatever, but people are still waiting. It’s like trying to get your hands on the last slice of pizza. You just can’t.
He went on about it at their 85th annual shareholders get-together. Can you imagine? All these important people, and he’s having to explain why your cousin can’t find a Switch 2? Well, he pretty much said people are going nuts, and demand is kinda eating supply for breakfast. Plus, some shareholders’ buddies haven’t snagged one yet either. Awkward.
Over in Japan, they came up with this whole lottery thing—like, applying on My Nintendo Store for a chance to buy one. It got wild quick. Furukawa mentioned over 2.2 million people threw their name in. Geez, that’s like trying to win the lottery, except way less money. He even had to hop on X (yeah, whatever that is now) to drop an apology for not meeting expectations.
They’ve done four lotteries already. Four! And still, some folks are outta luck. Another one’s coming in July, so fingers crossed. Word is, more stores are selling them straight up now, not just through those nerve-wracking draws. I guess more systems are trickling into stores? Maybe?
Anyway, they keep talking about making more systems available—sounds like a broken record at this point—to get them to people already tapping their feet in impatience.
But hey, the Switch 2 did launch with Mario Kart World, and they’ve got a lineup that’ll make gaming fans drool. Games like Donkey Kong Banana-whatever and Super Mario Party Jamboree (can you even say that with a straight face?) are hitting over the next few months.
So, if you’re ready to throw down some cash, it’s £395.99 in the UK, about €469.99 all over Europe, and $449.99 in the US. Yep, it’s pricey—but what’s new?
Just a heads up, if you’re into video trailers, they dropped a Switch 2 launch trailer, but it got kinda lost in the chaos of everything else.
