The anticipation for Borderlands 4 is kinda like waiting for my coffee to kick in on a Monday. You know it’s coming, you just don’t know when you’ll actually feel awake. As the game, slowly — painfully slowly, might I add — gets closer to hitting shelves, we’re all buzzing with little tidbits and trailers. Apparently, this time, it’s going for a more serious vibe. You know, less LOL and more OMG. Is that refreshing? Maybe! Or maybe not. Who’s to say?
But hey, just ’cause it’s serious doesn’t mean it’s not gonna make you chuckle. Ever met Claptrap? Yeah, that little robot who’s both adorable and irritating? Like pizza at 2 a.m. — great until it’s not. Anyway, turns out the geniuses at Gearbox came up with a volume slider just for him. You can literally mute him if you want. I laughed way too hard at this, but then again, the idea of silencing the annoying is universally appealing, right? Though it makes me wonder: could this lead to a landslide of character silencing? Something to ponder, or maybe just gripe about over morning toast.
Speaking of bothersome characters, the Borderlands cast is full of ’em. Characters like Lilith are fan favorites, but there’s always that one person who can’t stand them, right? Claptrap isn’t alone. Ava, Davis Pickle — they make the “most likely to be muted” list, TBH. Oh, and someone spread a rumor that this game was gonna cost $80, but thank the gaming gods it’s only $70. It’s like getting a discount on that fancy coffee you shouldn’t splurge on.
New heroes are popping up too — Vex, Rafa, Harlowe, Amon. Cool names, right? Almost like picking a name for your new pet; you want something that rolls off the tongue and sounds cool when you yell it across the room. Hopefully, they aren’t as chatty as Claptrap, or I’m gonna need more sliders.
With the impending release, the thought of Claptrap going quiet is both a great feature and possibly a missed opportunity. He’s been around forever, like that IKEA chair that’s sturdy but squeaks annoyingly. It’s such a running gag in the Borderlands world — the infamous love-to-hate character vibe. Maybe the slider’s just a novelty. Who knows?
Anyway, Borderlands 4 is dropping soon. It’s gonna be a wild fall, whether or not Claptrap’s incessant chatter is a distant memory. Or maybe we’ll just leave that feature alone and enjoy the chaos. Cheers to what’s next in store!
