Oh wow, it’s World Emoji Day. Who knew we needed one, right? Anyway, Apple’s jumping in with this funky new puzzle game on Apple News+ — yeah, only if you’re in the U.S. or Canada. It’s called Emoji Game, and it’s like a word game where you drag emojis to fill in blanks.
Apparently, Apple made this thing in-house. And, surprise, surprise, it joins this whole lineup of games like Crossword and Sudoku. But this one, it kinda stands out. It’s like they really wanted to make good use of iOS features.
So, here’s the gist: You get a daily puzzle where you’re solving words or phrases, six of them, actually. Emojis line up at the bottom. Let’s say the clue is Disap_ _ _ _, and there’s this pear emoji chillin’ there. Drag it into place, and suddenly you’ve got Disappear. And that’s just one way to use it – like Blue Prince if you’ve messed with it before.
Moving on, things get more tangled with multi-word phrases. Like this one — _ _ _ _ _ _ Year _ _ _ k, with a fish and ghost emoji. Put the ghost in place — you get “boo,” and the fish stands for “school.” Poof! School yearbook. Sounds like a brain workout? Don’t sweat it; there are hints.
They also mix it up with emoji groups so you’re playing detective with pictures. Take Genmoji for example — saw an eaten apple turn into “core” for a phrase.
Seems Apple’s itching for that Wordle vibe. Daily puzzles, archives, stats, streaks, the whole shebang. Up to 16 people can beef for top scores. It’s all very…Wordle-ish? Not sure it’s a reason to hit subscribe on a new app, but hey, if you’ve got Apple News+, it’s another random thing to fiddle with daily.
And so, here it is, folks. Emoji Game’s now live on iOS through Apple News+. Dive in if you feel the urge!
