Just had this wild ride with World War Z VR. First time diving into VR with a ton of zombies. You know — the kind that makes you question your life choices. I mean, really — is “more” actually better here? And, oh, the companions — got two AI buddies tagging along, adding to the chaos. Ever seen 200 zombies at once? Neither had I. But, diving in, I was kind of like, “Why am I even wondering about this?”
Here’s the thing about zombie games: normally, fewer zombies are like, more intense, because they’re all scary and stuff. Here though, it’s just a numbers game. Alone or in pairs, they’re as troublesome as gnats at a picnic. But suddenly, boom — massive horde! And there you are, reevaluating every decision you ever made. Also, random side note — do zombies in VR smell? I couldn’t tell, but it felt like they should.
So, in this version, you’re kind of like a one-person army, smacking them away with rifles or… was it a golf club? Anyway! Huge crowds appear, and I’m just there, blasting away like it’s nothing. They’re all about quantity here, not so much quality chomping on your brain. Think martial arts movies, but instead of ninjas, it’s rotting corpses that wait their turn smoothly. Like… polite zombies?
Now, toss in a few special zombies. Occasionally, you find some snazzy red ones — like, “Oh, that one’s fancy.” Changes the monotony a bit. There are screamers, some gas-chuckers, messy ones — each mix, kind of like spices in a rough soup. Keeps you moving through the maze-like map. Could be a movie. Or a nightmare. Not sure.
The game lobs these unique challenges your way. Like one time in Tokyo, had to set a bomb. Except… turns out, it’s not just “press the button.” It’s all twist this, shake that. Honestly didn’t see that coming. And your AI buddies couldn’t care less, just chilling uselessly.
Oh, and there’s gear to unlock. Like, hidden stuff you need keys for. Encourages curiosity, if you ask me. No idea why they didn’t go multiplayer, though. I kept thinking they should just let me bring a pal along. But alas, it’s me and the AI circus, fending off endless zombie bros — who yes, endlessly lurch out of walls like they’re on conveyor belts or something.
Let’s talk antics. The game’s little tasks and the creative arsenal — some solid moments. Like shooting? Good, because you’ll be doing a LOT of that. Weapons galore, though no upgrades, just variety. And the story? Don’t ask me. Besides “bang bang,” your guess is as good as mine.
Game drops August 12th for Quest and SteamVR. They’ll hear more about the whole zombie battle fest then. Meanwhile, if you want in, pre-orders are open. Maybe I’ll see you there, facing the hordes. Or, you know, screaming internally.
