Oh boy, where do I even begin? So, here’s the thing: I never touched the original Bravely Default on the good old Nintendo 3DS. Shocking, right? My friends keep telling me it’s, like, the next big deal after Final Fantasy. Anyway, there I was at PAX East 2025, and bam! Square Enix drops this demo of Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster right in my lap. I mean, talk about timing. So, armed with zero past experience (probably an advantage in disguise), I dove headfirst into it.
First up, they’ve ditched the dual screens we all loved…or tolerated? I dunno, never used ’em. But the graphics? Wow, crystal clear in HD. Like, the kind of clarity where you feel guilty admiring textures instead of playing. Oh! And there’s a fresh UI to match. I got curious and bugged a Square Enix rep—because why not?—about whether they’d give the same treatment to Bravely Second: End Layer. She didn’t spill any beans though. Maybe they’re tight-lipped because of my brilliant suggestion. Yeah, that’s probably it.
Let’s talk combat. I skipped most of the dialogue. Shh, don’t judge. I’m a sucker for action. The battle system, though—pretty nifty. You got Brave and Default moves. Brave is for the bold (pun intended). Do a flurry of attacks, and then, oops, you’re wide open for damage. Default is your safe buddy, guarding and saving turns like a squirrel hoarding acorns for the winter. It’s strategic, yet here I was, charging ahead with Brave every chance I got, practically taunting fate to clobber me.
Now, the job system? Who knows! I was too busy getting lost in the other stuff. But yeah, color me impressed with this remaster. It feels silly to have missed this ride on 3DS, but hey, second chances exist, right? Keep an eye out when it hits Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. Trust me, it’s worth a peek. Or a deep dive. Your call.
