Okay, so, if you’d told me a few months ago that my latest obsession—a Netflix binge called KPop Demon Hunters—would somehow mash up with my ancient love for all things Star Wars, I would’ve laughed it off. I mean, seriously, what would characters like Cal Kestis, Bode Akuna, and Merrin from the Jedi games have to do with Rumi, Zoey, and Mira from whatever HUNTR/X is? But then—get this—they kinda do. Like, in a roundabout way.
Turns out, they’re all about kicking butt and looking epic while doing it. Which is bizarrely satisfying to watch, by the way.
So, there’s this video. AnimatedJen put it together—I’ll say it’s a killer way to start your day if you wanna feel hyped. You’ve got this track, “How It’s Done” from HUNTR/X, just blaring. And there’s Cal, teaming up with Bode and Merrin, taking on the Empire’s goons. They’re not exactly falling out of planes, but man, their moves are sick.
Oh, and there’s this bit where Bode’s all, “You want some more?” and then—bam—Cal’s just kicking shoretroopers left and right. Bode swoops in with a jetpack, punches a guy right in the face. And Merrin’s there twirling her staff like a boss. At this point, I’m already losing it, and there’s still, like, a minute left. Crazy, right?
I’ve been following AnimatedJen for what feels like forever. Their take on Cal Kestis is something. I mean, the idea of Cal as an Inquisitor? Yes, please! There’s this buzz about maybe seeing these characters in live-action someday. Fingers crossed.
The best part? Fans like us just diving headfirst into what makes Star Wars, well, Star Wars. Taking the universe and twisting it into something new. Can I see Cal, Merrin, and yeah, even Bode (ugh, don’t get me started on Bode—he knows why) teaming up under some K-Pop spell to beat the Empire? Not remotely plausible. But that’s the magic, isn’t it? Just make it happen, right? I’m calling this dream team MANT/S now. Cere Junda as their manager? Someone put this on AO3, I beg of you. Modders, are you listening? Those outfits aren’t going to make themselves.
Anyway—if you’re wondering—I’m diving back into Jedi: Fallen Order. Gonna crank up “Takedown” and slash my way through some stormtroopers. Why not, right?
