I gotta say, last night EA threw quite a shindig for Battlefield 6’s multiplayer stuff. It was all laser-focused, like really zoned in on those franchise essentials. They were all jazzed up about features and maps, you know, the usual spiel. But here’s the kicker—something was kinda missing. Well, sorta.
The way they brushed over it, you might’ve blinked and missed it. What am I even blabbering about? Oh yeah, that leaked battle royale mode. Ripple Effect has their hands on it—the folks behind Battlefield Portal.
So we saw this trailer, like at the very tail end of the dev chat. Right before we jumped over to endless streams from those rapscallion content creators showing off Battlefield 6 multiplayer.
And the trailer? It was wild. People were legging it away from some invisible menace, which we later figured out was a spooky wall of fire. Vehicles were zooming about all over—combat rides and everything. I mean, duh, vehicles.
But hold up—it never outright said “battle royale” or mentioned if it’s picking up the Firestorm name. Although, that encroaching fire ring—kinda screams “Firestorm 2.0,” doesn’t it? Like, really, knowing the gaming community, if EA clings to that Firestorm thing, it would be a riot. Especially with the old Operation Firestorm map making a comeback—confusion galore, am I right?
Anyway, the teaser didn’t dish out a release date for whether it drops with Battlefield 6 on October 10 or not, but it did toss a bone to those Battlefield Labs folks—they’ll be dabbling around with it soon.
And no matter what fancy name they slap on it, odds are this battle royale will be free-to-play. Heck, after Call of Duty: Warzone, it’s a no-brainer. Plus, EA is all about roping in 100 million players or something? Yeah, money talks, people.
