Sure, let’s try something a bit different — kinda informal, like I’m just chatting with you over coffee or something. So, there’s this game, Directive 8020 from Supermassive Games (you remember them, right? They did UNTIL DAWN and THE QUARRY), and it’s hitting the PlayStation 5 on October 2. Mark that date if you’re into sci-fi horror, because who doesn’t want a little heart-pounding action with their morning coffee?
Oh, and before I forget, there’s this age verification thing for the trailer. They’re serious about keeping the kiddies out, I guess.
Anyway, the game takes you light years away, to Tau Ceti f. Earth’s kind of on its last legs, you know? And we send this ship, Cassiopeia — sounds fancy, right? — but of course, things go sideways and they crash. Typical. And then they find out they’re not alone. Seriously, are they ever alone in these stories? Some alien thing’s lurking, playing hide-and-seek with the crew. It’s like, you think Dave from accounting’s cool, then BAM, he’s an alien. Trust issues, man.
So, you’re juggling survival, and every decision might doom Earth. No pressure, right? Just another day at the office. The storytelling’s supposed to be immersive or something. Lashana Lynch, you know her? She’s the astronaut ‘Young’ in this one. And by immersive, I mean it’s like you’re on this ship, doing the whole MacGyver with phasers deal to survive. I’ve always imagined space as this quiet, eerie place. Turns out, it’s more like “Who’s the alien today?” kind of vibe. Not sure if that’s comforting. Or just terrifying.
Plus, with the alien shapeshifting shenanigans, anybody could be the enemy. The tension’s high, like that one time my Wi-Fi cut out mid-finale of my favorite show. What if your best bud’s just an alien in disguise? Gotta keep those reflexes sharp, or whatever. Can’t trust anyone. Ugh, just like high school.
Anyway, am I rambling? I probably am. This game’s about choices and survival and stuff. It’s gonna mess with your head, but in a good way, they say. Check it out if you’re into that sorta thing!
Okay, where was I again? Oh yeah, on my way to rewatch the trailer… because why not?
