Whoa, so get this – Diablo 2, this classic ARPG everyone and their uncle knows, hit the big 25 on June 8, 2025. Yup, a quarter of a century old! To celebrate, the official Diablo account on X tossed out a mysterious message. It was like, “Think you’ve seen everything? Just wait,” which had everyone buzzing like, “What could possibly be next?”
Fans were on fire with guesses: new runewords, maybe a fresh hero? More Horadric cube recipes? My head was spinning just thinking about what could keep this legendary game rolling for another bunch of years.
But wait – the bomb they dropped wasn’t what any of us were expecting.
Right, so, Diablo 2: Resurrected is heading to China. Surprise, surprise, huh? Blizzard and NetEase stepped up during China’s 2025 ChinaJoy expo, announcing a shiny new version for the Chinese market. Say what?
Blizzard’s big cheese, Johanna Faries, broke the news on LinkedIn with some teaser trailer action too. Diablo 4 hitting China soon? Sure sounds like it. But seriously, why the wait for Diablo 2: Resurrected to land there?
Something about China’s rules – the gore and all that jazz isn’t really their style. Plus, to get a game published there, it needs a local partner. Enter NetEase.
It’s pretty clear, Diablo 2: Resurrected Chinese style won’t match what we’re used to. It’s basically a standalone gig – no cross-play with the versions we’ve been hacking since 2021.
Okay, so here’s where it gets wild. They’re tailoring the version specifically for Chinese gamers. See, China kinda digs the pay-to-win scene, and this game is no exception. Tiered packages are a thing, with the basic running about 168 Yuan. You get the game and some sweet experience boosts.
The Deluxe, though? That one’s 278 Yuan and throws in some gear and runes. Want the ultimate? 458 Yuan gets you a fresh set and extra boosts. As a player in the real game since it dropped, these extras are… eh, not all that. The set’s cool for early games, but you can snag that stuff playing normally.
Oh, and pre-orders get an extra stash tab. Heck, you can buy even more tabs – unlike what the rest of us got.
So, for those already in the Diablo world, no major changes. Cool to see development is still happening, but it feels sorta… disconnected, maybe?
Couple months back, I wrote about how Blizzard seemed to forget about Diablo 2 and hoped they’d give modders more leeway. Then came the anniversary tease about chaos. I mean, could the China release be that chaos? Uh, not buying it, but hey, can dream right? Fingers crossed this is just the start.
Hope springs eternal for more chaos for all of us mangling monsters in Diablo’s crazy universe. Let’s see what happens, yeah?
