Good news on, uh, a Wednesday or whatever. So, Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel? Yeah, it’s finally kicked off into pre-production—like CD Projekt just blurted it out. They’ve ditched that mysterious Project Orion name. It’s just Cyberpunk 2 now. Simpler? Maybe.
So apparently they dropped this bomb during some dull financial stuff presentation. But hey, kudos to the Cyberpunk sequel folks for hitting that milestone! Oh, there’s also buzz about the first game hitting Nintendo Switch 2 soon. I mean, who saw that coming?
Anyway—oh wait, where was I? Right, CD Projekt’s kinda chatty about this. They said, “Several weeks ago…” and whatever, their team wrapped up the conceptual phase like it’s no big deal. Cyberpunk 2’s ditching the whole Project Orion tag and sliding into pre-production.
I skimmed through their presentation—April 30th to be exact. The devs on Cyberpunk 2? There’s 96 of them trotting along. Just earlier, in February there were only 84 of them. Sure, they’re drowning next to the 422 devs on Witcher 4—oh, and don’t forget the 131 folks in “shared services”. I kinda forgot what that even means…maybe localization or QA? Who knows.
Speaking of reveals, the Phantom Liberty expansion? It’s zoomed past 10 million copies. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3’s sitting pretty on a hefty 60 million as it hits its 10th birthday. That’s a whole lot of folks wandering Dogtown and slicing up monsters. Can you believe it?
Now here’s a thought—will CD Projekt stick with the Cyberpunk 2 name? Might they juggle it around to squeeze in a year, like Cyberpunk 2077? Mike Pondsmith—the TTRPG whiz—teased that the next city might feel like a twisted Chicago somehow. Chew on that one.
