Ok, so there’s this wild thing. Sega and the folks over at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio — you know, the Yakuza masterminds — just crashed the Summer Game Fest 2025. Man, this new thing they’ve got, Stranger Than Heaven, it’s got one of those trailers that make you think, “Wait, what the heck just happened?”
Anyway, picture this: some detective drama from the 1914s, maybe what you’d expect in an old-school Judgment, but then they hit us with a twist. Imagine L.A. Noire, but with that RGG Studio flair. Seriously, why did this get to me? No clue.
So there’s this detective, Mako Daito, right? He’s prowling around this flashy city — think neon lights and swanky nightclubs but also some downright gritty streets. It’s like everyone’s kinda lost in their own, I don’t know, indulgence? That’s a fancy word for chaos, right? Mako’s got this moodiness about him, poking around for clues. Oh, and those survival bits? Total surprise! He’s puffing on a cigarette, and bam, a warning pops up: “Draws immense hostility when smoking.” Like, who knew? He’s hungry, thirsty, and all. I was like, “Dang, make up your mind, man!” when he’s faced with letting a baddie go or not. Crazy stuff.
The trailer, oh boy, finishes with Mako meeting some American dude who’s shocked — not even kidding — that he’s Japanese. Mako drops this heavy line about losing himself. Such drama, and I’m all in. It’s got this whiff of classic Yakuza drama, which is just spot-on.
Here’s the kicker, though. They’ve named it Project Century and, by the looks of it, the story might unravel over, yeah, a whole century. RGG’s folks kind of hinted, but also were like, “Eh, don’t even bother trying to figure this out.”
Mark your calendars for 2026. Stranger Than Heaven’s gonna be one heck of a ride, or at least, it looks that way to me.
