‘Run the Block’: A New ‘Jet Set Radio’ Inspired Mini-game Unveiled by ‘Rec Room’ – Watch the Trailer

Rec Room is brimming with thrilling first-party adventures perfect for diving into with both friends and folks you might just meet along the way. The platform’s latest big release, ‘Run the Block,’ draws heavy inspiration from the much-loved Dreamcast classic, Jet Set Radio, which first hit the scene back in 2000.

This exciting multiplayer mini-game made its debut on December 11th and has already managed to pull in over a million eager players. In ‘Run the Block,’ reminiscent of Jet Set Radio, you face off against up to nine other players, racing and executing parkour moves with finesse through a bustling urban landscape.

Although the rollerblade culture from the 2000s isn’t part of the experience, you’ll still be sprinting, jumping, and grinding over expansive lines crisscrossing the cityscape. Plus, the ability to leave your mark with graffiti adds an extra layer of excitement to the vibrant, art-infused metropolis.

Over the past year, Rec Room hasn’t introduced many first-party titles, with the largest being ‘My Little Monster,’ a captivating pet farming sim. The focus seems to have shifted towards integrating branded content, including avatar packs from ‘Monster High’ and collaborations with Bungie’s popular first-person shooter, Destiny. Rec Room has concentrated on enhancing its creator suite to empower users to craft intricate worlds and sell their crafted assets in the game’s creator economy. Also, the introduction of full-body avatars earlier this year has brought even more personalization options for users.

Adding to its accessibility, Rec Room launched on the Nintendo Switch in November, extending its reach across a variety of devices like PC VR, all Quest headsets, the original PSVR, iOS, Android, Pico, Xbox, and PlayStation.
