Oh man, where do I even start with this? So, you remember Counter-Strike, right? That game we all obsessed over at some point. The version everyone’s talking about, 1.6, is making a comeback—except this time, you’ll be wearing a VR headset. Weird, right?
So, uh, there’s this group called Team Beef. Honestly, what a name! Anyway, these guys have been porting old-school games to VR. Think Tomb Raider and Quake 4 and stuff. I mean, how cool is that? They’re working on bringing Counter-Strike 1.6 to Quest and Pico headsets. Yeah, it’s unofficial, but who cares?
Apparently, they’re using this thing called the Xash3D FWGS engine. I don’t know much about that techy stuff, but it kinda lets the game work in VR like magic, or something? And there’s this Velaron client they’re mixing in there too. It’s like they’re baking a cake, but with game engines. Or is it more like a science experiment? No clue.
You’ll be able to play with friends from inside VR and, brace yourself, create servers right there. Isn’t that wild? Oh, and cross-play with original controls. They say full motion controls are coming too. It’s a work in progress, I guess. There’s an early access thing happening soon for those who throw money at their Patreon. Seriously, VR is getting all nostalgic.
They even dropped a teaser, but don’t expect the fancy motion controls just yet—those aren’t there. Kind of a bummer, but hey, patience is a virtue or something, right? Anyway, this has me all sorts of excited. Or maybe I’m just feeling nostalgic. Hard to tell.
