Okay, so Nintendo just dropped this nugget: Drag x Drive, their funky new wheelchair basketball game. It’s hitting Switch 2 on Aug. 14. Same day we get Madden NFL 26. Coincidence? Who knows what those guys are thinking.
This Drag x Drive thing is kinda pulling back the curtain a bit on what Nintendo’s planning for Switch 2 in 2025. Gives us a hint—or maybe just a tease—of how they’ll roll out the first six months or so after launching this new-gen beast.
Oh, and the price? 20 bucks. Sounds like they’re calling it an “experiment.” I guess we’ll see if this summer stays a snooze-fest for game drops. August also has Kirby and the Forgotten Land coming to Switch 2, and it’s got this expansion, Star-Crossed Land—whatever that means. New Mouthful Modes? Meh, sure.
Back up to July for a sec. We’re getting Donkey Kong Bananza, plus a Super Mario Party Jamboree remix with some Jamboree TV action. Seems there’s a trend here: mix of old and new. But hey, maybe I’m overthinking it.
September, though, that’s a dry well. Nintendo’s calendar is empty, zilch from them, but third parties are stepping up with stuff like Borderlands 4 and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles—definitely not Nintendo-type titles. Thank goodness because my wallet needs a break.
Come October, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is gonna show up. Another cross-gen thing. Fun times.
Looking into 2025 a bit, we’ve got two major titles hanging in the wind: Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. No release dates yet. September’s glaring at Metroid Prime 4 like it’s a juicy steak, and I’m betting Switch 2 folks will be busy with Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s upgraded version anyway.
Kirby Air Riders might just dot the ‘i’s for Nintendo’s fall lineup, while third-party hits like Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Hades 2, and Hollow Knight: Silksong mix it up, maybe even toss in a Call of Duty. Oh, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment? It’s penciled in for winter, which could really mean January 2026. Sneaky, sneaky.
Then let’s not forget those GameCube gems they’re hinting at for Switch Online + Expansion Pack: Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance… the list goes on. Nintendo loves to keep us on our toes. What’s next, a time-traveling Mario? Expect surprises, because that’s just how they roll.
