Sony to Reduce PSVR 2 Price by $150 Permanently in March, Featuring ‘Horizon Call of the Mountain’ Bundle

In an exciting move today, Sony has revealed its decision to permanently reduce the price of the PSVR 2 starting next month, allowing gamers to snag this PS5 and PC-compatible virtual reality headset for just $400.

Having been initially launched two years ago at $550, the PSVR 2 didn’t receive much attention on its two-year anniversary. Even during the recent State of Play, it flew under the radar. But now, Sony is cutting the price to $400 in the US, €450 in Europe, £400 in the UK, and ¥66,980 in Japan, effective in March.

What’s more, this price drop isn’t limited to just the basic PSVR bundle. It also covers the Horizon Call of the Mountain package, which originally hit the market in February 2023 at $600. Both bundles come with the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones, making this deal even sweeter.

Over the past couple of years, PSVR 2 has been offered at discounts that dipped even lower than this new price point. For instance, the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle went for a mere $350 in a November 2024 sale, hinting that even greater deals might be on the horizon.

Sony has lined up some impressive PSVR 2 content in light of this pricing update, showcasing games like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion. Upcoming titles such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk are also in the works. Yet, despite these exciting offerings, Sony hasn’t fully committed to backing the PSVR 2.

So far, Sony has rolled out a few first-party games for the PSVR 2, including Horizon Call of the Mountain alongside VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This level of support appears limited compared to the original 2016 PSVR, which saw the release of hits like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds, VR Playroom, and had VR modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

On the flip side, last August, Sony did throw PSVR 2 users a bone with its $60 PC Adapter, enabling them to connect to a VR-ready PC for games on SteamVR, such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. However, Sony seems to be gradually easing the PSVR 2 away from its PS5 ties.

Looking forward, price reductions are likely to continue, which could mirror the sales boost seen during the last holiday season. This trend might attract more PS5 owners to explore both the backlog of excellent games and the steady influx of third-party releases. Another 42% discount, similar to what was offered on Black Friday, would drop the PSVR 2’s price to an enticing $232—right into the realm of an irresistible holiday gift.
